1. What we collect
We collect only what's needed to watch prices for you and run your account:
| Data | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| Account identifier | To keep your watch list yours. By default this is an anonymous account (a random ID — no name, no email). If you choose Sign in with Apple, we receive the identifier Apple provides, and optionally your name and email if you choose to share them (Apple may provide a private relay email that hides your real address). |
| Items you save | The product links, titles, images, prices, and any target price you set — this is your watch list. |
| Price history | Prices we observe for your watched items over time, so we can tell when something is a genuine low. |
| Alert activity | Records of alerts we detected and sent, and whether you tapped through — so we can improve reliability and, in aggregate, understand how the product performs. |
| Push notification token | A device token from Apple, so we can send you an alert when a price drops. Tied to your account and device. |
| Subscription status | Whether you have Bide Premium, and its renewal/expiry, provided by Apple's App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details — Apple handles all billing. |
| Alternate listings | When we find the same product at other stores, we store those listings against your item. |
We do not collect your contacts, precise location, browsing history, or advertising identifiers.
2. How we use your information
- To watch the prices of the items you save and detect genuine drops.
- To send you notifications about those drops (only with your permission).
- To provide, restore, and manage your Bide Premium subscription.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the app.
- To understand, in aggregate and de-identified form, how the product is performing (for example, how many drops are detected per day). We don't use this to profile you individually.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
3. Third parties we share with
Bide relies on a small number of processors to function. We share only what each needs, and only to provide the service to you:
- Supabase — our secure database and backend hosting (stores your account, items, and price history). Data is hosted in the Sydney, Australia region.
- Scrapfly — retrieves publicly available product prices from retailer web pages on our behalf.
- SerpApi / Google Shopping — used to discover whether the same product is sold more cheaply at other stores.
- Anthropic — when you choose to identify an item from a photo, that photo is sent to Anthropic to recognise the product. It isn't stored by Bide and isn't used to train anything. You'll see a plain consent screen the first time, before any photo is sent.
- Apple — delivers push notifications (APNs), provides Sign in with Apple, and processes all subscription payments through the App Store.
Each is bound to use data only to provide services to us. We don't share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or social networks.
4. Affiliate links
Some links to retailers in Bide may be affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you buy after tapping through. This never changes what we show you or when we alert you — we watch and alert based only on genuine price movements. We disclose this in the app.
5. How long we keep your data, and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your data at any time in the app (Settings → Delete my data), which removes your saved items and associated price history from our servers. You can also delete the app and, if signed in with Apple, revoke Bide's access in your Apple ID settings. Some minimal records may be retained where required by law or to prevent abuse.
6. Security
Your data is stored in access-controlled databases with row-level security so each account can only reach its own data. Push signing keys and API credentials are held server-side and never shipped in the app. Sessions are stored in the iOS Keychain. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
7. Your rights (Australian Privacy Principles)
You may access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Much of this is available directly in the app; for anything else, contact us at hello@mybide.app. If you're not satisfied with how we handle a privacy concern, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
8. Children
Bide is not directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
9. International users
Bide is operated from Australia and data is hosted in Australia. If you use Bide from outside Australia, your information will be processed in Australia.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Bide evolves. If we make a material change, we'll update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
